Lady Alessia of the Alessian Isles

Lady Alessia

Alessia began life as a slave and left it with the emerald Isles having taken her name. She was said to have been merely 5'4 with strawberry hair. She was strong-willed and a brilliant natural leader.

Note: The image is a portion of the stained-glass window in the throne room of Castle Canikua in the capital city of the Alessian Isles, Cahoqitan. Armor such as the one she is depicted wearing did not yet exist. This image was made by Alessians to glorify her legacy rather than portray an accurate depiction.

About Alessia

Only a mere few have made such an impact on history to have an entire country named in their honor, but only one has an entire region named after them: Lady Alessia of the Alessian Isles. Alessia was born into slavery about five centuries ago. At this time, the Isles were ruled over by mysterious beings simply referred to as the Overlords. Virtually nothing is known about them as Alessia and her followers scrubbed them from the historical record, but lingering legend suggests they may have been one of the last pre-human races left in Valtiel who still ruled over a realm. Nonetheless, most of the population were enslaved to the Overlords, until Alessia amassed a following that spread like wildfire across the Isles to overthrow them.

Alessia was young, merely nineteen, when she led her slave revolt. She was also a shaman who was said to be able to manipulate the weather. Two years into her revolt, at the age of twenty-one, she seized Cahoqitan and much of the lower half of the land. She then ruled for seven years attempting to unite the entirety of the Isles. In the seventh year of her reign, as the war was drawing closer to an end, she was captured and burned at the stake by the remnants of the slavers who once ruled over her. They punished her for committing witchcraft and thought this would stamp out her rebellion. It only ignited it further.

While portions of the realm eventually broke away from the kingdom Alessia forged, her descendants have continued to rule from Cahoqitan up to Arthen Fane, the Chief-King of the Isles in The Fall of Kings. The Fanes, dating all the way back to Alessia, are the largest coven of witches in the known world, each monarch and member of the family maintaining the family tradition.
