The Twelve Divines Faith

The Twelve Divines faith is the preeminent religion in Valtiel. It’s earliest history dates back to Cyros in the southwest, where some of the first humans worshiped many gods before the rise of major realms in the world. The Twelve quickly became the most widely worshipped within a pantheon of many more gods. An organized religion arose, and codified their place in a unified church. This church, called the Sanctum, emerged out of Paradavedra in Melaine, and spread throughout Valtiel like wildfire.

Intioba – King of the gods, lord of the heavens, strength, and power. He has a fierce rivalry with Pelagara. The two gods are the patrons of athletics, with many events consisting of two teams, white for Intioba and blue for Pelagara.

Visage: A large black beard extends to the top of his chest. Intioba wears a white tilmatli and loincloth. He is tall and muscular, the first born of the divines.

Nevathia – The Dread Lady, she is the shepherd of souls into the afterlife. Cruel and vicious, she has the power to take life, and despises those who attempt to evade her. She is widely feared, and a critical deity, for she decides on what becomes of the departed.

Visage: Nevathia wears a black cloak with much of her chest exposed. The left half of her body is rotted and skeletal. A touch from her decomposed left hand brings death. Her right half is beautiful with flowing black hair, but her skin is pale and cold like a corpse.

Talocan – Once a physical god like the others, Talocan sacrificed his body from which the world was born. He is the god of living things on the land, the lord of plants, the harvest, and the weather.

Visage: Talocan is formless. The god speaks through the wind and moves through all living things. Typically visualized as a hooded punchu swirling in a heavy wind.

Pelagara – The King of the seas, lord of all water. While Talocan presides over the land, Pelagius rules the water. The rival of Intioba, Pelagara wishes to be king of the gods and is a patron of athletics.

Visage: He is a being formed of swirling water in the shape of a man.

Omala – The goddess of love, youth, and beauty. She is the divine of both physical and mental beauty. Omala is known to curse those who offend her with their physical or mental vanities.

Visage: Omala is a young woman and has long flowing dark hair to her waist with a thin yet voluptuous physique. She wears a form-fitting floral dress and flower wreath.

Neitho – God of the hunt, feasts, animal husbandry, and tool making. He is the source of the survival instinct within all living things. He is the lord of intuitiveness, resourcefulness, and survival.

Visage: Neitho is a younger athletic figure wearing the hides of many animals. His hair is ragged and untamed, his skin dirty, with stubble.

Macatl – God of fire, warmth, and light. He is the lord of passion and lust. He introduced fire and self-awareness to humans.

Visage: A middle-aged man with a full head of black hair. He’s clean shaven, wearing tocapu garments.

Potec – The lord of trade and wealth. He also is the patron of the arts. Potec is thought to be envious, greedy and jealous, although willing to help anyone so long as he stands to gain.

Visage: He is bald and round, and wears tocapu linens.

Alacoya – The Lady of life, mercy, healing, and compassion. She has the gift of life and is often considered to be at odds with Nevathia, although they do not despise one another; they are two sides of the same coin.

Visage: She is an older woman, with brown eyes, wearing a hooded brown huipilli and cuetl.

Xianus – The master of fate and the keeper of time. He prophesizes the future, but with the presence of the corruption in the world, His ability to read the future and divine fate is less certain. Xianus is also the god of knowledge.

Visage: He is bald and clean shaven wearing a punchu and robe covered in golden leaf. He often carries a quill to inscribe fate as he sees fit.

Amaya – The deity of the night, dreams, sleep, witchcraft, and omens. She is also considered to be the messenger, or the spy, of the gods.

Visage: She is often seen as a shadow in the corner of one’s eye, lingering in the darkness never to be seen directly. The moon is her domain.

Atula – The god of war, order, justice, and law. He is the patron of humanity and the only human who ascended into godhood.

Visage: Atula is middle-aged with green eyes, and his hair and stubble is cut incredibly short. He wears Cyretian gold hoplite armor, with a spear and shield. He’s the greatest warrior in the pantheon.
